Barn Quilts - Day 1 September 13, 2010

Today I started another project with Willow Faye.  We are starting to draw and paint the barn quilts.  The first one was finished tonight.  As you read before there is one in Trenton at a person house on a small barn, and another on Willow Faye's building near her house.

I am going to post the picture tomorrow, after I put the top coat on the painting.  The next one is going to be more detailed, and I will post them as they are finished.

The other project I am working on is the picture for a special young lady for her wedding.  I will not post it until after the wedding and the surprise she has for someone is complete.

I am also working on a couple of windows filled with fall leaves.  So keep reading.  The next mural will be started in October.  Not sure which one I am doing first, but I hope it is the one that is nearest my home.  Can't wait to get started.

Hope you will be at the Heritage Day Celebration.  We are dedicating the mural of A. L. "Dude" Andrews and it begins at 10:00 am on Saturday.  The yard sales begin at 8:00 am so come one down and enjoy the people, the sales, and then go to the Civic Center for all the booths there.  We are still selling 50/50 tickets, and you can buy these at Red Willows.

Keep watching for new posts and I see you in October on the ladders that are beginning to be some of my best friends.  k

11th Day Angel Finished

Well it was a busy day and it didn't look like me and Grandma would get to the wall to finish the Angel today, but it did happen.

We woke up pretty early and started getting ready to take the cat, Simon, back to the Vet so he could give us an ok to put him with the rest of the cats.  Tony took him, and they said to keep him separated until the medicine was completely given.  So Simon rode home on Tony's lap and looked out the window admiring the day.  When he got home, he was stronger and began to notice his brother was not with him.  So he continued to visit the windows and look for his brother all around the house.

Grandma and I went to Trenton to delivery a finished sign for a client, drop some Trenton Beautification items off at Willows, talk to Jessie about Wednesday night, and stop by Gwen's for some knee medicine.  And I forgot get Brad to work at Subway all before 11 am.  We arrived at Air Frames, Claudia Henley's framing shop.  She had the postcards ready and the pricing sheet for the meeting on Thursday.  So again something got crossed off the list.

When I stopped by Willow's she reminded me about Mr. Thomas' picture, and I had only practiced drawing him with pencil (HB.)  So today when I got home from errands at 12 pm I pulled out a canvas, put his outline on it, then started to fill in the details, this was a small painting 8 x 10.  After I was satisfied with the perspective, I went up stairs and two hours later it was finished.

When I looked at the picture his family had provided I had to improvise because I kept seeing a tank.  There was no tank in the picture, and the picture was so old it had darken with age.  Well, when I talked with Mr. Thomas I said I would like to put a tank in the picture, he pulled up his sleeve and showed me a tattoo that had he had put on in the service that had the Tank Division information on it.  So even though the tank was not there, it was there.  One side of the picture is more colorful than the other, because I felt he wanted to forget the tanks and just be home.

Then it was time to finish the Angel.  Grandma and I took Mr. Thomas' picture to Willows to dry on my wall in Red Willows in Trenton.  We then took off to the Angel at Gypsy's.  She was waiting and I pulled out the tall 14 foot ladder and pulled out the paint brush for the last time.  The clear coat went on easily and she just began to shine.  I put two coats on her eyes and they looks even more human.  A sensitivity was shining in those eyes.  It took about an hour to finish the clear coat.

We packed up the old paint truck and put away Gypsy's paints, the copper, the clear coat and the Linseed Oil, all loaned to me during this process.  They were just what I needed to finish the details and clean the brushes. I borrowed your scaffolding and other ladders also.   Thank you Gypsy.

I had Grandma pose for a picture with the Angel because I want you to know I have a helper.  She holds the ladder when the ground is not even, she hands paint, brushes, pieces of paper, pictures up to me to ease stress on my knees going up and down the ladder on long days.  So thank you Grandma.

This is Grandma....

Thank you Willow for your belief in me and constantly answering my phone calls for phone numbers, ideas for walls, friendship and garage sales....hehehehe.

Stuart thanks for the use of the ladder, and for stopping by to see what was up at Gypsy's.

So here she is finished.

These pictures were taken in early evening, but the morning picture will be posted tomorrow.

I will miss going to Gypsy's to paint the "Angel", which I believe should be her name.  Maybe we will call her Angela, I'll see what Gypsy has in mind for her name!

My next project is a wedding project, and I will post the picture once they are married, it will be a wedding gift.  So keep reading and watching I will post other finished pieces until I start a wall again.

Today I approached a person in Trenton who has a pristine wall.  I explained I would love to put Ethnic Angels on it, with flowing wings that looks like the wind.  Hopefully this will happen on their wall, but maybe it will be on a large barn.  But I know it will be.

Thanks for being a part of this.
Peace and Love
to all... k

Angel 10th Day

Arrived at the wall a little late today, plenty of things to do at home.  The weather is perfect for yard work, and that makes me very happy.  I arrived at Gypsy's and found her mowing her grass.  She stopped welcomed me, gave me some juice and we sat and talked for awhile.  Delightful, insightful and inspiring, that just about sums it all up

She gave me some varnish to use to seal the angel, and I put some last minute touches on the Holy Spirit Dove, the angel's wings, and then the melting blending of the blues and purples were complete.

I started to seal the Angel and the colors melted together under the varnish.  I worked about 3 and 1/2 hours was too tired to get on the tall ladder to do the upper portion of the mural, but will be back at it about 9:30 in the morning.

I will sign it tomorrow and Claudia will take a picture for Christmas Card orders.  Check the last day's verbiage and you will find her name (Angel Day 9), click on it and it will give you an option to send her a personal message regarding the cards.  Our family plans to use this Angel for our Christmas Cards this year.

September 18, 2010 is Heritage Day in Trenton.  There will be lots of activities. Ben Casey will be at the mural of "Dude Andrews" across from the courthouse at 9:30 am for a dedication ceremony.  Everyone is invited, this is going to be a fun day.  Then there is the Civic Center activities, garage sales at 8:00 am downtown, and Gypsy's place in the evening.  Plan to make a day of it, and pass the news along to everyone you know.

I am looking up scripture on Angels and I read we are a little lower than the Angels, mainly meaning I believe our inherited nature from Adam has caused some difficulty.  But we all know Grace abides in our lives and that Grace is amazing.....so live well in Grace because Jesus died for us all.  What a wonderful thing to remember as I finish the Angel tomorrow.  She came before Jesus came and I know she comes often to Gypsy's.  She is a protector, carrying a warning to let everyone know she stand on Holy ground......to protect and to serve Gypsy and her extended family.  Join up, you will enjoy the passion this Angel has for all of usl.

Angel 9th Day

Thursday Grandma and I went down to paint on the Angel while waiting on the storm. The air was breezy, the sun hid most of the day and it was a perfect day for painting. I spent most of the day on the cloud, it was amazing how the gray, blue, black, pink, gold, white, and orange melted together to make a most outstanding strong cloud on which the Angel stands.

I painted until about 1:30 pm and it started to rain just a little, so I packed up, sat down in the chair for a moment, and felt the Angel was almost finished.

Friday I worked at home, and ran some errands, so I didn't make it back to the Angel that day. But on Saturday on the way home of New Bern, we stopped by the Angel and I felt it was finished. The only two things I will do on Monday are blend the blues together, and put blue behind the dove.

As the Angel stands on the cloud I feel like she is guarding Gypsy's place, and acknowledges this truly is holy ground in Trenton. I hope I get to paint more angels, one I will begin next week will be at a private residence in Trenton. It will be painted on two doors which will be hinged together in their back yard. It will be lit, so it may be visible from the road or it may not, but whomever gets to see it will know Trenton is the land of Angels.

Today I didn't go to church, I worked on the flower beds in the front yard, and when I was having a moment of church with Grandma in the am before we had breakfast, I asked God to let us see an Angel, so that I could paint one from Him, and I believe this will happen.

There was a time last year that I kept dreaming about an angel appearing in a dream in a circle, an opening between this world and our heavenly world. I painted this angel and a man bought it for his little girl's room, because she was afraid at night. This angel floated in the circle with black hair and wonderfully kind eyes, so don't be surprised if this angel does not appear on someones barn in the future.

I have some projects to work on before I start the next mural, one is a surprise on a 4 x 8 sheet of balsa wood, the angel at the private residence, a picture of Mr. Thomas, some children who play musical instruments from Jacksonville, and a Christmas Card for some of our friends who visit Gypsy's Cafe several times a week. Then I will start a barn near my home for Tim and Gwen Meadows, and the mural across from Aggies' is still a want to, but the process begins with meeting with the Beautification Committee of Trenton. So it will be a busy September and October. Hopefully I will get to paint until the middle of December, before the cold sets in, so keep watching for new projects around our town.

Thanks to those who believe in me, and thanks for all the projects. The final picture will be posted tomorrow.

If you would like a picture of the Angel to hang in your home, please contact claudia, at Air Frames and Art. She can print a picture for you. Pricing will depend on the size you choose. Her business is located in Trenton, NC. I personally use her talents for my paintings, and many of my friends do also, she is very talented.

Angel 8th Day

It was a great early morning to paint, we got there about 8am and left at 12:20.  The tin got really hot today around 11:30 but I didn't want to stop because the cloud definitely wanted to come in under the angel.  Someone stopped by today, but didn't come over to talk, they came across Gypsy's neighbors drive and stared at the angel for a long time.  This made me feel really good.  I guess there is enough of the colors showing for Wyse Fork travelers to get a glimpse of something.  Be curious about this and come by and see it.  There is definitely a feeling of peace on this property and now that peace has a guard....a beautiful red haired angel which I am sure Gypsy will name.

I have been getting paint from some of the most out of the way places.  Grandma and I went to some garage sales a couple of weeks ago, and I am always looking for paint, paint brushes, canvases, anything pertinent to painting.  So that week I found four bottles of temper paint and they were primary colors, which is so appropriate for the clouds on this angel.  I am hoping people will see our murals in Jones County and stop by with any left over paint they have that is tempered to use outside.  I plan to have the owners of each mural supply the coating for their painting.  I can get the coating for about 20 dollars, and it will protect your artwork and help others see it and enjoy it for a long time.

I have a special prayer request and God knows what it is all about, so please join with me to thank Him for His will in my life.  He knows I love to paint and hopefully an opportunity will come alone to help me realize my dreams of painting for Jones County.

I talked to my friend Lisa today in CA, and she is starting a private high school in San Bernadino.  She wants to have me consult with her art teacher about murals.  This again helped me know this is my future.

You may be a little tired of hearing the word THANKS but thanks to all of you who took a chance with me when  I first moved to Jones County.  Willow and all her friends, customers, our church members, Tim and Gwen, Regina and Matt, Shelly, Lydia, Wendy, Logan Green, Julie and Stevie, Rose, Becky, Gypsy, Claudia, Jessie, Bud, the ladies at the courthouse, and all those who bought my paintings.

You make me feel like a Trentonian....k

More Pics:

I worked on the Holy Spirit in her left hand today, I believe you can see it a little better now.  Also the sword and hand were adjusted.  The cloud has just begun so keep watching for more picture and remember to stop by and meet our first Jones County angel.

A closer view of today's angel.

I will be painting in the early morning, and looking forward to finishing the clouds.
